Mike Pucci is a second generation Californian who was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is a graduate of Sacramento State College where he majored in finance and business administration. He worked in a technical sales role at Hewlett-Packard for ten years prior to making the move to Sonoma Valley.
He met Mia Sangiacomo on a blind date in San Francisco in 2004. Shortly thereafter they moved to Sonoma and were married.
He joined Sangiacomo Family Vineyards in 2006. As Operations Manager, he takes the lead in ensuring the family business remains on the cutting edge technologically. He manages data collection and interpretation, including pressure bomb readings, yield estimates, bunch weights and cluster counts. He spearheaded the implementation of an innovative methodology to capture this data from the field as well as subjective data such as signs of pests, vine health, and general grapevine phenology. Using GPS-enabled devices connected to a web-based database, workers code data to the exact spot where the sampling takes place, enabling targeted follow-up actions and long-range planning.
He particularly loves the excitement of harvest as a year’s worth of planning and farming come to fruition. During harvest, he oversees picking and loading of the lots, trucking and delivery.
A talented photography, Mike always has a camera close at hand as he makes the rounds of the vineyards, ready to capture a perfect sunrise over the vineyard, bud break, or the excitement of night harvest. His images offer glimpses into the daily workings of the family business and the natural beauty of the ranch. Most recently, he launched an effort to capture images of the vineyards from a drone.
Mike and Mia live in Sonoma with their two children, Michaela and Dom. When not busy working, he enjoys playing the guitar -- particularly Allman Brothers tunes – or riding through the vineyards in an ATV with his kids.
